A Fair Purchase

June 22nd, 2008 by BJB

I have just cast the stitches onto my needles for the Krista sweater, by White Lies Designs. I love the shaping and romanticism of the White Lies patterns. Their curvaceous lines are so flattering to us buxom women!

I’m using an incredibly soft, drapy yarn by Mirasol called Cotonani, a blend of merino and cotton. The sweater is knit at a gauge of 16 stitches to 10 cm. so it’s knitting up quickly already. This is a welcome relief for me after my last 2 sweater projects which were knit with a fine gauge with progress being quite slow.

I also really like the idea of supporting the shepherd’s children in Peru, where this yarn is produced. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Mirasol yarns goes to improving the lives of these children. The owner of River City Yarns, where I bought the Cotanani, told me that a school has now been built in Peru with the money raised.

I feel good knowing that my purchase was a fair one. Beautiful yarn for my sweater and consideration for the shepherds and their families who work so hard to make a living producing this wonderful fiber.
