Pingouin Yarn Available

August 11th, 2010 by BJB

In one of my older posts, Pingouin Babies, I wrote about the many things I knit for my children when they were young, using Pingouin yarns.  I loved working with these yarns and was very disappointed when they became unavailable.

I’ve had a number of comments, since that post, from readers asking about Pingouin yarn and pattern availability and substitutions. I’m happy to report that I’ve found a store in my area with plenty of Pingouin yarn in stock. The store is called Kountry Knits and it’s located in Alberta, Canada.

The owner can be contacted at : kksc@telus.net for mail order inquiries.  Paulette is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.  Her store has quickly become my favourite Local Yarn Store.

I recently purchased enough Pingouin Spring yarn to make a summer cardigan.  Spring is a 100% Egyptian cotton, fingering weight yarn with a beautiful smooth finish.

Kountry Knits has a number of colours in stock of the Spring yarn as well as numerous other Pingouin yarns and a handful of Pingouin pattern books.

Now that I’ve found this stash of Pingouin treasures I will definitely be adding to my own yarn collection in the weeks to come!

Thank you both for your nice emails. I do indeed appreciate knowing about Kountry Knits. I’m contacting her right away. On Ravelry a lady, also from Canada, said she had 13 balls. I was elated and emailed her! Alas! She meant she was making a sweater in the very same color yarn and couldn’t spare any. My heart sank. I knitted the back and realized my grandson was now 6 feet tall and growing. My local knit shop confirmed my fears yesterday. Either I find more yarn or tear it out. That’s an awful prospect. Thanks again very much. I’ll let you know what I discover … hope, hope, hope.

Here I am again … still hoping to find Pingouin’s “Cottage” yarn. The store in Alberta, Canada called Kountry Knits had other kinds of Pingouin yarn, but not “Cottage.” A lady from Canada did respond on Ravelry, but the 13 balls she had of Cottage and the VERY same color were going to be made into a sweater. I didn’t have the heart to tell her she didn’t have enough, even for a woman’s sweater. I guess I will start the painful process of unwinding.

One last place you might try…a store called Knit n’ Purl, in Edmonton, Alberta, is closing out for retirement. I was in there the other day and they had a number of Pingouin yarns. I’m sorry I didn’t notice if they had Cottage or not. It might be worth a try before you start unwinding. The phone number is 780 482 2150. One last ‘Hail Mary’ so to speak.
