Verity Views

November 11th, 2008 by BJB

My daughter originally knit this pattern Ysolda’s Verity in Mission Falls 1824 Wool.

I liked it so much I had to knit one for myself, using my handspun, 100% wool yarn, in a natural tan colour.  I’m now working on a second one, in the same handspun yarn, for my daughter.  I won’t have quite enough for the entire hat so I’m planning to knit the band in a contrasting yarn.

I could knit dozens of these hats!  The directions are easy to follow, with written directions as well as charts, and the hat is so gorgeous when done.  I just love watching the flower petals develop as I knit. It can easily be completed in 2 or 3 evenings.  It’s started on 4 needles and, as the stitches increase, they’re moved to a circular needle.  I switch to the circular about 12 rounds later than suggested in the pattern. This means more stitches on the circular which makes stitch movement a little easier.  Directions are provided for x-small to large. This gives you some options for yarn choice.  For example, if your yarn is a bit finer than called for in the pattern knit the large size and you’ll end up with a medium sized hat. My future plans for Verity include a second one for myself made with Quebecoise wool from Birkeland Brothers in Vancouver

and one knit with Cascade 220 Merino for the Youth Emergency Shelter charity knitting project in my hometown.
