Molly and Me
April 4th, 2008 by BJB
‘Molly’ and I have been spending a lot of time together this week. I have a week off from work and, aside from my spring cleaning binge, I’ve been spending a fair bit of time spinning on my new Fricke Single Treadle spinning wheel, also known, to me, as Molly. My circa 1978 Ashford Traveller was literally falling apart every time I spent more than 30 minutes spinning on it. When I decided to buy a new wheel I did a fair bit of research before ordering a Fricke from http://www.spunkyeclectic.com/index.html.
I looked at many beautiful wheels with price tags ranging from$600-$1000, which was more than I wanted to spend. I’d never heard of Fricke before and stumbled on the name by accident during my research. They advertise as “the best kept secret in spinning wheels”. They shouldn’t be a secret- every spinner should know about this wonderful, well priced wheel!
For $ 300 I got a sturdy, well balanced wheel with 5 whorl ratios. It’s not as cute as the current ‘ hot item’ in wheels- the Ladybug- but it spins beautiful yarn, it’s dependable, transports easily and meets all of my spinning needs. My Ashford now sits as a lovely wood furniture piece while my Fricke is my spinning workhorse.
The service from Spunky Eclectic was excellent. Amy was patient in answering my numerous questions, via email, and she even sent a complimentary 100 grams of Blue Faced Leicester handpainted roving as a thank you for my order.
